The site
A steep south-facing slope with long views and almost no flat ground — the hardest part of the project, and the best.

Approach
We stepped the house down the hill
Rather than carve a single pad into the grade, we let the plan follow the slope so each room meets the ground on its own terms. The move keeps the structure low and quiet against the ridgeline.
Stepped section follows the natural grade
Board-formed concrete base, vertical cedar above
Deep eaves tuned to summer and winter sun
